Sexy Cellulite

October 1st 2006 08:56
Who can site the Cellulite?
Summer is coming and I decided I needed a pair of black shorts…the only problem was that 70% were so short that spectators could easily sue me for indecent exposure and the other twenty-nine percent were plain hideous…though my long hours of short sifting and greasy giving to other short shoppers landed me the pair of shorts I'm wearing now…though thinking back to my memories of purchasing the pair I'm surprised I even bought them…I emerged from the clothes room, slightly anxious but also with a sense of satisfaction and hope as I was able to do the button up. I looked into the only mirror available (I hate it how some places don't have personal mirrors in the change rooms) only to see a ridiculously slim sales girl taking the "layered" look to the extreme, if you ask me. She said, "they're a nice cut aren't they", which offered little confidence as I heard her say the exact same thing to the girl who emerged out of the change room next to me in a ghastly top. I politely agreed as I examined myself in the mirror, though the sales girl lingered. I said, "yes, I like them because they're not as short as some of the others around", hoping that after receiving a response she would bugger off and fold some t-shirts…BIG MISTAKE. "Yeah, I know" she said, "Those shorts are good for hiding cellulite and winter legs", as I saw her reflection look me up and down. I wanted to smash the mirror, or her face…come to think of it, I probably bought the shorts to spite her (don't know how that works). Finding cellulite on stars is one of women's magazine's favourite hobbies. I'm surprised women's magazines don't have this hobby built into their games and puzzles section…it could be titled "Where's Wobbly?" Everyone likes too see celebrities imperfections so they too may share in an "eeeewww". Though, cellulite is anything but celebrated, it is hunted and slaughtered by magazines…so why so much hate? On the face their cute, so why are these dimples scorned everywhere else? It's the same with stretch marks, scars, wrinkles and veins…why aren't we embracing these beauty spots? I try to think of them as inscriptions on ones body of telling their life story so far in. For example, a woman who has given birth may have stretch marks along her belly. Like patterns on animals…they should be beautiful and signs of individuality…but they're not. Is this a ploy to scrape away every last spec of individuality, and have everyone bronzed and in denimn? Whay are these unique markings a disgrace according to magazines that sell miracle creams, powders and gels to vanish these "imperfections"…none of which will actually work. The problem is, is that our concept of beauty, the one magazines create, does not relate to our reality. It's like when white European settlers in Australia, attempted to "breed" the aboriginal race out when the skin colour they saw in the mirror didn't reflect Indigenous persons skin colour...women don't need to all turn into models, we just have to smash the mirrors! When will we realise that perfection is found in the imperfections?
