Gentlemen prefer brunettes?
October 22nd 2006 07:29
I just went back brown after having been a bottle blonde for the past 6 months. It's funny, the whole blonde vs. brunette debate. A few little genes decide whether you're stereo-typically smart or stupid, simple or sexy…or do they? When I was a brunette I had a boy-friend and when I was blonde I did not. Though I feel like I got a lot more attention as a blonde, more walk-down the street honks and stalking eyes…I wonder whether I was more intimidating as a blonde so men wouldn't approach me (though they would whistle from the safety of their passing vehicle and hope I would follow, tongue hanging out the side of my mouth and barking?) or whether men simply prefer brunettes as partners. Most of the guys around me preferred me brown, whilst the ones that I love couldn't care less about my hair colour. Every-one has their own personal opinion on the whole thing, but why? After all its only hair, isn't it? I must admit I did feel less sexy when I went back brown. I don't know precisley why. Maybe it's because of social stereo-typing and the blonde Scarlett Johansson's, Christina Aguilera's, Jessica Simpson's and Charlize Theron's…or even Maryln Monroe's always hogging the spotlight…Blonde is the all-American Hollywood look…even though most of them are bottle-blonde. I personally believe brown hair is more exotic…but it's also easier to miss. I think a brunette needs to be twice as attractive as a blonde to get as much attention as a blonde. Why does the whole blonde vs. brunette debate not carry over to men…does it not matter for men as it's their brain that matters? Magazines tend to fashion lighter over darker. Should brunettes bleach it or bare it brilliantly? Or do gentlemen prefer blondes?
